‘Why did she go to live with him before marriage?’, Supreme Court raised questions in a case of live in relationship.
Justice BV Nagarathna Big Statement On Live In Relationship Case: The Supreme Court said a big thing while making an important comment during the hearing of a case. In fact, during the hearing of a case, Justice BV Nagarathna raised the question of a widow going into a live-in relationship before marriage. This case pertains to the allegation of rape on false promise of marriage.
According to the report, Justice Biwi Nagarathna asked why did she go to live with him before marriage? When we raise such a question, it is said that we are victim shaming, what is this? At the same time, the lawyer of the accused argued that the complainant was in a weak condition at that time. She said he met her when she was a young widow of just 18 and he promised to marry her.
Is this the whole matter?
Actually, this case is related to the bail plea of a person, who is accused of having a relationship with the complainant by promising marriage. The court’s comments are similar to comments made earlier this year. During the hearing of another case in February, Supreme Court judge Justice Nagarathna had talked about caution regarding relationships before marriage.
‘Maybe we are old-fashioned’
During the hearing on the bail plea in another rape case, the bench of Justice Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan had said that perhaps we have old ideas but before marriage the boy and the girl are strangers. According to reports, the bench questioned the nature of pre-marital relations in a case involving rape on promise of false marriage.
