Glow Up Your Garden: Rose plant will remain laden with flowers even in the scorching sun, just follow these 5 magical tricks
News India Live, Digital Desk: Summer’s intense sunlight and heat wave not only affect humans but also delicate plants. It is often seen that with the onset of summer in April-May, rose plants start drying up or they stop flowering. But if you are fond of gardening, then there is no need to panic. By adopting some easy and scientific tricks, you can keep your rose plant green even in summer. Let us know those special tips which will keep your garden smelling of roses. 1. Mulching is most important, the moisture in the soil evaporates very quickly in summer. Mulching is the best way to keep the roots of roses cool. Spread a layer of dry leaves, wood sawdust or sugarcane bagasse on the surface of the soil around the plant. This layer does not allow sunlight to reach the soil directly, which keeps the roots cool and reduces water evaporation. 2. Right time and method of watering: People often make mistakes while watering roses. Time: Always water early in the morning (before 7 pm) or in the evening after sunset. Watering in the afternoon makes the soil hot which can damage the roots. Method: Always water the roots of the plant. There is a fear of fungus getting there by sprinkling water on the leaves, especially if the leaves remain wet at night.3. Avoid ‘Pruning’, do ‘Deadheading’. Never do heavy pruning of roses in summer, as this increases the pressure on the plant. Do ‘Deadheading’ instead. That is, cut the flowers that have dried a little below the branch. This will allow the plant’s energy to grow new buds instead of making seeds. 4. Special fertilizer for summer (Fertilizer) Fertilizer with more chemicals can burn plants in summer. Use organic and cold fertilizers in this season: Old cow dung manure: This is the safest. Liquid Fertilizer: Soak banana peels in water for 2-3 days and pour that water into the plant. It is an excellent source of potassium which helps in blooming flowers. Epsom Salt: Dissolve one teaspoon of Epsom salt in one liter of water and apply it to the roots once a month. This keeps the leaves shiny and green.5. Protection from afternoon sun: Roses love sunshine, but direct sunlight above 40 degrees can burn its petals. If possible, place a ‘green net’ over the plants between 12 and 4 pm. Shift the potted plants to a place where they get 4-5 hours of morning sun and shade in the afternoon. Pro-Tip: Pest Control Attack of ‘Mites’ and ‘Thrips’ in summer It is more common on roses. To avoid this, spray neem oil every 15 days in the evening. This will keep the plant healthy and the buds will be able to become flowers without falling.
