Watch: Virat Kohli’s fan in tears after being overlooked by RCB opener

Indian batting star Virat Kohli was in the national capital with his Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side on Monday. The defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champions took on the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. It was a one-sided encounter as the visiting side romped home to an easy nine-wicket win.

The 37-year-old enjoys a huge fandom across all ages, not just in India, but also worldwide. One fan, though, was left heartbroken as his interaction with the former Indian skipper didn’t go as planned. In a short video that was posted, one very young fan runs up to Kohli in a bid to get his autograph.

The legendary RCB batter, though, didn’t seem to notice his young fan making his way towards him. India’s former skipper kept walking as the security stopped the child from venturing ahead. This didn’t sit well with the youngster, who threw his bat down in frustration and broke down crying.

Cricket fans react sharply to viral video

Once the video made its way to social media, fans weren’t pleased with a young fan getting ignored. One fan wrote, “Maybe he wasn’t in the right mindset that time… but that ignorance towards the kid is not right.” Another fan wrote that he was feeling sad for the little fan.

A few others came out in defence of the Indian star, and a few even posted pictures of the player taking pictures and signing autographs. The Delhi-based batter is known to take time out for his fans and spend some quality time while interacting. This, though, seems a one-off where the player might not have noticed the young man.

King Kohli creates another landmark with the bat

On Monday, Virat became the first ever batter in the history of the IPL to reach the 9000 run-mark. In the final ball of the sixth over, with a single off Axar Patel‘s bowling, the right-handed batter reached the landmark. In the next over, India’s superstar batter hit two successive sixes off T. Natarajan’s bowling to seal the game for his side.

Earlier in the day, Josh Hazlewood picked 4/12 from 3.3 overs to bowl out Delhi for a mere 75 runs. It was Bhuvneshwar Kumar who set the ball rolling when he got three wickets in the powerplay overs.

At one stage, the Capitals were struggling at 8/6 before David Miller and Abhishek Porel added 35 runs for the 7th wicket to pull the home team out of a hole and offer some respite. Porel top-scored with 30, making him one of the three batters to reach double figures in what was a miserable day of cricket for Axar’s men.
