Who will become the heir of your Facebook and Instagram after your departure, know what is the government’s plan?
Till now it happens in the world that after the death of a person due to some accident, the land and property of the person is transferred to the name of the family. But have you ever heard that after a person’s death, you can acquire not only physical assets but also digital assets, like Instagram, Facebook and crypto assets?
Government’s new plan
In the digital age, it has been seen in many cases that due to privacy policy, the family has to face a lot of trouble to get the digital assets of the person. To overcome this problem, the government is planning to bring a law under which the digital assets of the family will also be available and its name will be Digital Will.
What is included in a digital will?
There used to be a time when people used to have only physical assets but with the changing times, now people are also earning money through digital assets like social media accounts. Let us tell you, according to the privacy policy rules, the family members have to take court orders to get access to the laptop and accounts. Now, to solve the problem, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is preparing guidelines on this issue. Under this, these processes can be further simplified.
The assets included are:
- Social media accounts: The family will be able to see all the photos and messages of Instagram and Facebook.
- Crypto Assets: A person investing in crypto will be able to get wallet access.
- Digital Storage: Access to saved photos and videos will be available in Google Photos and Cloud Storage.
Which companies include this facility
Google gives its users an option of ‘Inactive Account Manager’, through which if your account becomes inactive, Google itself gives access to the person you have added.
There is an option called ‘Legacy Contact’ in Facebook, through which you will be able to see the messages of the person you have added as long as your account is active.
- Apple gives its users a feature of ‘Digital Legacy’, in which you can make a person a nominee. With which the person will be able to access your iCloud data.
The government is taking this step so that even after the death of a person, family members can remain connected with his memories. With this, the cases of fraud will be reduced by doing so.
