Why is folic acid called ‘pregnancy vitamin’? Very important for mother and child

Women need a lot of nutrition before and after pregnancy. During this period it is advisable to take folic acid. The small-looking folic acid pill is called the “pregnancy vitamin,” which is beneficial for both mother and baby. It helps in the formation of new cells and also builds the child’s brain, but do you know what folic acid is?

Folic acid is a synthetic form of vitamin B group, while its natural form is called folate. Generally folic acid is easily found in green vegetables, pulses and dry fruits. Folic acid is essential for body construction and body balance and the most important function is to form red blood cells, that is why folic acid plays a very important role in the development of the child growing in the mother’s womb. It protects pregnant women from symptoms like anemia, weakness, headache.

Folic acid plays an important role in fetal development during pregnancy. It is extremely important in the development of the neural tube of the embryo. If the mother does not take folic acid during pregnancy, the chances of the child being abnormal increases. Due to its deficiency, the spinal cord and nasal bone of the child do not develop properly and the child is not able to develop fully. This is why doctors consider its consumption mandatory before pregnancy and in the first three months.

In Ayurveda, the period of pregnancy is called “Garbhini Paricharya” and in this “Garbhini Paricharya” it is advised to eat such diet in Ayurveda, which fulfills the deficiency of folic acid in the body, such as green leafy vegetables: spinach, fenugreek, amla, orange, pomegranate, moong, lentils, gram, almonds, and walnuts. Along with this, Shatavari, Ashwagandha, and Giloy can also be consumed after consulting the doctor. Ayurveda believes that the diet taken during “Garbhini Parichara” increases blood and plays an important role in the development of the baby in the womb.
