This incident is being reported from the 40th match of IPL 2026, which was played against Punjab Kings. During the 16th over, when Rajasthan Royals were chasing runs, Riyan Parag was reportedly seen vaping in the dressing room.

What do IPL rules say?

As per IPL rules, the dressing room falls in the “no-smoking zone”. There are strict restrictions on tobacco or related products, including e-cigarettes and vaping. Violation of rules can result in punishment ranging from a warning, deduction in match fees or even suspension in serious cases.

Will legal action be taken?

E-cigarettes are already banned in India. Its manufacture, sale, use and storage is illegal under The Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019. A first-time violation can lead to a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to ₹1 lakh, while a repeat offense can lead to a jail term of up to 3 years and a fine of up to ₹5 lakh.

Controversy has happened before too

Even before this in IPL, action has been taken against teams for violating rules. In the same season, the team manager of Rajasthan Royals was fined for using mobile phone in the dugout.
