People of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are being snatched away from their land, people should be heard in a democracy: Rahul Gandhi

Vijaypuram: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that the land of the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is being snatched away and is being given to big businessmen like Adani without asking anyone. Forest Rights Act is also not being implemented here. The people and tribals living here are not getting proper compensation and India’s heritage is being secretly stolen.

The main issue of Andaman and Nicobar is ecological theft, because trees worth millions of rupees are being stolen here.

He said that we will tell the country what is happening here and try to protect the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Rahul Gandhi said that there is a water problem in Andaman. There is corruption here from LG’s side also. He is acting like a king. Even though he has named his house and office as ‘Lok Bhawan’, he does not meet anyone. He said that in a democracy, the people should be listened to and they should be respected. The main issue of Andaman and Nicobar is ecological theft, because here trees worth crores of rupees are being stolen and land is being snatched.

Forests that took generations to grow

Rahul Gandhi shared the video on X post and wrote that today he passed through Great Nicobar. These are the most extraordinary forests of my life. Trees that are older than our memories. Such forests which took many generations to grow. He said that the people of this island are equally beautiful, whether they are tribal communities or the people who have settled here, but everything that is their right is being snatched away from them.

This is not development, this is destruction hidden in the language of development.

What the government is doing here, it calls “projects”. But from what I saw, it is not a project. These are millions of trees which have the marks of an axe. This is a 160 square kilometer rainforest that has been left to die out. These are communities that were ignored, while their homes were taken away from them. This is not development. This is destruction hidden in the language of development.

One of the biggest scams and most serious crimes against the natural and tribal heritage of the country

“So I will say it clearly, and I will say it again and again: What is happening in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and most serious crimes against the natural and tribal heritage of this country in our lifetime,” Rahul Gandhi said. This should be stopped. And this can be stopped, if Indians also see what I have seen.

When the king becomes a ‘trader’, the forest, land and life of the people are no longer safe.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi said he met tribal families in Andaman and Nicobar Islands who were displaced after the tsunami and are still waiting for their native land. They were never consulted. Now, in the name of a “project”, 160 square kilometers of rainforest is set to be destroyed, pushing them towards displacement once again. We will stand with them to protect their land, their livelihoods and their future.

Sacrifice of Nicobar forests and filling Adani’s pockets, this is the real policy of BJP: UP Congress

UP Congress wrote in its ex-post that sacrificing the forests of Nicobar and filling the pockets of Adani, this is the real policy of BJP. People’s leader Rahul Gandhi has exposed the Modi government’s ‘Adani Prem’ from the land of Andaman and Nicobar. A conspiracy is being hatched to cut 160 square kilometers of forests and hand them over to an industrialist. Now I understand why the government wanted to stop Rahul from coming here? When the king becomes a ‘businessman’, the forests, land and lives of the people are no longer safe. Rahul Gandhi will stand with his chest raised against this ‘grand-loot’ in the Parliament.
