Big change in Sri Lanka cricket: Sri Lanka Cricket President
Sri Lanka cricket saw a big change on April 29, when Board President Shammi Silva resigned from his post. This decision has also been officially confirmed by Sri Lanka Cricket.
Sports News: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) saw a major administrative change on 29 April 2026, when board president Shammi Silva resigned from his post. Along with him, all the officials and members of the Executive Committee of SLC have also submitted their resignation collectively. This development has signaled the beginning of a new era in Sri Lankan cricket administration.
Resignation of the entire board together, stir in cricket administration
According to the official statement issued by Sri Lanka Cricket, the resignation of all top officials including the President has been accepted with immediate effect. This decision was taken after the Executive Committee meeting held on April 28, after which there was a sudden change in the entire cricket structure. The Board clarified that now the responsibility will be handed over to an Interim Administrative Committee, which will monitor the cricket operations in the times to come.
According to sources and local reports, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had recently stressed the need for reforms and changes in the cricket board. It is believed that this mass resignation may be the result of the same political and administrative pressure, although this has not been officially confirmed. The Sports Ministry has also been informed about this decision, and now the government and the interim committee will decide the future course of action together.
Interim committee will take over the responsibility
The government is likely to appoint former MP Eran Wickramaratne as the interim head for the running of Sri Lankan cricket. This committee will hold charge until new elections or a permanent administrative structure is announced. The purpose of this interim arrangement is to keep cricket administration stable and to prevent preparations for upcoming international tournaments from being affected.
Shammi Silva took over the responsibility of the post of President of Sri Lanka Cricket for the first time in February 2019. He had replaced Thilanga Sumathipala and held the post for about seven years. During his tenure, Sri Lanka cricket achieved some important successes, including the performance of the men’s and women’s teams in the Asia Cup. However, the team’s performance in ICC tournaments was relatively weak.
The performance of the men’s team in particular continued to decline, and Sri Lankan cricket has faced difficulties in maintaining stability on the world stage in recent years.
