Sharad Kalaskar will come out of jail, granted bail in Narendra Dabholkar murder case

Sharad Kalaskar got bail from the Bombay High Court on Wednesday in the Narendra Dabholkar murder case. A bench of Justice AS Gadkari and Justice RR Bhosale, comprising the division bench of the Bombay High Court, heard the petition of Sharad Kalaskar. Pune court had convicted Sharad Kalaskar in the Narendra Dabholkar murder case. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. Now Sharad challenged the decision of the Pune court and requested for bail till the decision on his appeal comes. The court has granted bail on a surety amount of Rs 50 thousand.

 

A case of murder of communist leader Govind Pansare is also going on against Sharad Kalaskar. However, he was granted bail in this case last year by the High Court. Now after getting bail in Dabholkar case, Sharad Kalaskar can come out of jail any time. Although the prosecution requested the court to stay its order, the court rejected it.

What is Narendra Dabholkar case?

Narendra Dabholkar was shot dead in Pune on 20 August 2013. He had gone out for a walk in the morning. Then two people riding a bike committed the crime. Dabholkar used to run an organization against superstition in Pune named ‘Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti’. The case was investigated by Maharashtra Police. Later the deceased’s daughter Mukta Dabholkar approached the High Court. After this the investigation was handed over to CBI.

They were acquitted by the court

A sessions court in Pune on May 10, 2024 found Sachin Andure and Sharad Kalaskar guilty of murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Whereas Virendra Singh Tawde, Vikram Bhave and Sanjeev Punalekar were acquitted due to lack of evidence. After the murder of Narendra Dabholkar, three other rationalists and social workers were also murdered. Govind Pansare was murdered in Kolhapur in February 2015, Kannada language scholar MM Kalburgi in Dharwad in August 2015 and journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru in September 2017.
