Rickleton’s storm! Century in 44 balls, 19 year old record shattered
The IPL 2026 season may not have been as per expectations for Mumbai Indians, but some players of the team have made a mark with their performance. The most prominent name among these is that of opener Ryan Rickleton, who caught everyone’s attention by scoring his first IPL century this season. The special thing was that along with this century, he also made a big record in his name.
Richlton’s bat spoke against Hyderabad
Rickleton’s bat performed very well against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the match played at Wankhede Stadium on 29th April. The team had to face defeat in the last two matches, so in this match he got a chance in the playing eleven. Actually, regular opener Quinton de Kock was out due to injury, of which Rickleton took full advantage.
Rickleton appeared aggressive from the beginning of the match. He along with Will Jacques made a quick partnership of 93 runs for the first wicket. Rickleton completed his half-century in just 23 balls and even after this he did not slow down the pace of scoring runs. Even after Jacques’ dismissal, he continued to put pressure on the opposition bowlers and eventually completed his first IPL century in just 44 balls.
Record of fastest century
With this brilliant innings, Rickleton also broke the record of scoring the fastest century for Mumbai Indians. Earlier this achievement was in the name of Sanath Jayasuriya, who had scored a century in 45 balls in 2008. In the same season, Tilak Verma had also equaled this record by scoring a century in 45 balls, but Rickleton set a new record by taking one ball less.
Rickleton has also become the third batsman to score a century for Mumbai this season. The interesting thing is that all three centuries for the team this year have been scored by left-handed batsmen. First of all, De Kock scored a century against Punjab Kings, while after this Tilak Verma scored a brilliant century against Gujarat Titans.
