Middle East tension: Jaishankar talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi, agree to remain in touch

New Delhi, 29 April. Amidst the ongoing tension in the Middle East, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi spoke on telephone with his Indian counterpart Dr. S. Jaishankar on Wednesday evening. In this dialogue, various aspects of the regional situation and the current geopolitical situation were discussed in detail. Both the leaders agreed to maintain constant contact in future also.

While sharing the information on the social media platform ‘X’, Foreign Minister Jaishankar said that many aspects of the current situation were discussed in detail in the talks. He said both sides stressed the need to continue dialogue.

It is noteworthy that Araghchi has been on a tour of Pakistan, Oman and Russia in recent times in order to negotiate a settlement with America. In this sequence, he visited Pakistan thrice within 48 hours. During these visits they discussed the situation in the Middle East and especially the tense issues related to the Strait of Hormuz.

In Oman, Araghchi met with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said and Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi. Describing safe maritime transit and regional cooperation as a priority, he said that this will benefit not only the neighboring countries but also the global community.

On the final leg of his visit, Araghchi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg. During this, bilateral relations, regional situation and issues related to America and Israel were discussed. According to the Russian news agency, Putin assured to make every possible effort to restore peace and reiterated his commitment to strengthen relations with Iran.

This entire diplomatic activity is being considered important at a time when there is tension in the Middle East and communication between major countries is continuously increasing to maintain stability at the global level.
