Arjun Kapoor: Actor Arjun Kapoor reached Delhi High Court, pleaded for personality protection rights

Arjun Kapoor: Delhi High Court on Wednesday announced passing an interim order on the petition filed by actor Arjun Kapoor. In this petition, the actor had demanded his rights to personal security against the alleged misuse of his identity. This petition was heard by Justice Tushar Rao Gedela. Advocate Praveen Anand, appearing for the actor, told the court that the image of the defendant actor was being used without permission.

The advocate told the court that some people are involved in unauthorized booking, while others are engaged in business activities. The petition filed by the actor also includes the names of technology companies like YouTube, Facebook, Google, LLC and Meta Platform. Praveen Anand told the court that the content included sexually objectionable material, fake news and obscene depictions related to Arjun Kapoor.

He further said that many of these are images created and transformed by artificial intelligence. The lawyer told the court that the actor has been edited and shown with animals in some obscene material. In some material the actor is shown selling Golgappa. The lawyer told the court that such material was neither satire nor humor of any kind. Such things are beyond acceptable limits. The lawyer also mentioned court orders of other celebrities in similar cases.

Google’s lawyer cited the procedure adopted in the Hrithik Roshan case. He said that complainants can report objectionable content on the platform, after which the platform reviews it and takes action. The court said that material related to a public figure cannot be removed easily.

The court remarked that people in public life have to face such criticism, however, action can be taken if the content is defamatory or libelous. The court also said that public figures are subjected to more intense scrutiny than common people. Citing the case of DM Entertainment Pvt Ltd vs Baby Gift House, the court cautioned against taking an overly broad approach. After hearing all the parties, the court said that it will soon issue detailed interim orders.
