Strong earthquake shocks in this state
Kalahandi: A moderate intensity earthquake was recorded in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Wednesday evening, which left people in the surrounding areas in panic for some time. This earthquake occurred on April 29, 2026, at around 7:42 pm, when people were busy in their daily activities. According to the National Seismological Centre, India’s official earthquake monitoring body, the intensity of this earthquake was measured at 4.1 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Kalahandi region at 19.729° North latitude and 82.599° East longitude.
The earthquake was of shallow depth
The depth of the earthquake is said to be about 24 kilometers underground, which is called “shallow depth” earthquake in scientific language. Such earthquakes usually occur close to the surface, so their tremors are felt more clearly and strongly, especially in the areas around the epicenter. According to the information, this earthquake was recorded about 45 kilometers away from Paparahandi. Due to this, people felt tremors in some parts between Papadahandi and Dharamgarh areas.
National Center for Seismology has also given information about this earthquake. According to the information given by the agency, this earthquake occurred in Kalahandi district of Odisha on Wednesday at 7.42 pm.

However, till now there has been no news of any major damage or casualties due to this earthquake, but slight tremors were felt in some areas. An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 is generally not very destructive, but due to its shallow depth its impact can be felt more in the surrounding areas.
