Wahi becomes the new mayor of Delhi, lotus blooms amidst the crushing defeat of Congress and boycott of AAP

Greater Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party has proved its strength by securing a one-sided victory in the Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor elections. Senior councilor Pravesh Wahi has been elected as the new mayor of Delhi. He defeated Congress candidate Zaheer by such a huge margin that the contest appeared completely one-sided. A total of 165 votes were cast in the election and it is a matter of relief that not a single vote was spoiled. When the results box was opened, Pravesh Wahi got 156 votes, while Zaheer was limited to only 9 votes.

Despite being present in the House, AAP turned away

This time the election was a little different because Aam Aadmi Party completely distanced itself from the voting of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. AAP’s councillors, MPs and MLAs were in the House at the time of voting but they did not participate in the process. However, in a smart move the party has decided to participate in the Standing Committee elections. Actually, only three names have come forward for the three seats of the Standing Committee, out of which two are from BJP and one from AAP. In such a situation, it is certain that all three will be elected without any uproar or voting, that is why AAP considered it necessary to register its presence there.

Greater Delhi: Mathematics of votes and BJP’s chessboard

It is also quite interesting to understand the mathematics of MCD elections. There are a total of 273 votes here, in which along with councilors, MPs and MLAs also take part. The magic figure for victory is 137. BJP not only crossed this figure but also strengthened its hold by getting 156 votes. The party not only had its 123 councilors, it also got the full support of MPs and MLAs. The remaining gap was completed with Swati Maliwal joining BJP, which further increased the strength of the party.

Greater Delhi: Anubhav’s victory: Who is Pravesh Wahi?

The new Mayor Pravesh Wahi is not a new name, he has long and deep experience in politics. He has held the responsibility of Zone Chairman thrice in East and North Delhi Municipal Corporation. Apart from this he has also served as the Chairman of the Standing Committee. At present he is a councilor from Rohini B ward and now the command of Delhi is in his hands.
