‘The DNA of all Indians is connected to Mahadev’…This statement of Jamia’s VC created an uproar, this big thing was said in the ‘Yuva Kumbh’ program

The ‘Yuva Kumbh’ program organized by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Tuesday at Jamia Millia Islamia University in the capital Delhi has become a topic of discussion. University Vice Chancellor Professor Mazhar Asif also participated in this program. A video of his address given from the stage is now going viral on social media, in which he has openly said that the DNA of all of us Indians is the DNA of ‘Mahadev’.

Speaking at the “Yuva Kumbh” program organized on the campus on Tuesday, Asif said that the DNA of all Indians is linked to Lord Mahadev.

Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor Mazhar Asif is embroiled in controversy regarding one of his statements. After a video of comments he made at an event organized by the RSS went viral, there were sharp reactions, especially from student groups. Speaking at the “Yuva Kumbh” program organized on the campus on Tuesday, Asif said that the DNA of all Indians is linked to Lord Mahadev.

In a video posted by PTI, Asif is trying to stress on national unity despite diversity. He said, looking at all the people sitting here, I do not think that everyone has the same mother tongue, upbringing or culture. Geographically, and I say this geographically, they may not even be from the same area. Their religions may also be different. Yet, despite all this, we are Indians. We are Indians because the DNA of Mahadev is included in our DNA.

The Students Federation of India (SFI) unit at Jamia strongly protested against the statement, calling it unscientific and inappropriate for a central university known for its academic standards. The statement was made at Jamia Millia Islamia, which is known for its academic and scientific excellence, the group said in a statement. SFI also alleged that action was taken against students who protested against this comment.

However, there was no immediate detailed reaction from the RSS on this specific comment. The “Yuva Kumbh” event, where these comments were made, is part of the RSS’s broader public relations campaign aimed at connecting youth with topics like culture, identity and nationalism. Such events usually include speeches, discussions, and participation from academics and public figures.
