Marriage grant scheme became a support for poor families in Uttar Pradesh, people are taking benefits like this
Under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented many welfare schemes for the deprived and economically weaker sections of the society. One of these is ‘Marriage Grant Scheme’, which has emerged as a big relief especially for the poor families of Other Backward Classes (OBC). This scheme is reducing the burden of families by providing financial help in the marriage of daughters.
More than one lakh daughters got benefits
During the financial year 2025-26, direct financial assistance has been provided to more than 1.16 lakh beneficiaries under this scheme. The state government has spent about Rs 232 crore on this. This figure shows that the government is making serious efforts to provide assistance to the needy families. This initiative has helped many families come out of financial crisis.
Help reaches the account directly
Under this scheme, each eligible family is given an assistance of Rs 20,000 for the marriage of their daughter. The special thing is that Public Financial Management System (PFMS) is being used to make the entire process transparent. Through this, the money is transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiary, due to which corruption and the role of middlemen has been eliminated.
Child marriage also curbed
Mandatory age conditions have been fixed in the scheme. The minimum age of a girl must be 18 years and that of a boy must be 21 years. This has also effectively stopped the evil practice like child marriage. This initiative not only provides financial assistance, but is also proving to be an important step towards social reform.
Transparency increased through online application
The government has made the application process completely online, so that common people do not have to visit government offices. The application can be made 90 days before or after the wedding date. The amount is released only after verification by BDO in rural areas and SDM in urban areas.
Weaker sections get priority
In this scheme, special priority is given to disabled, widows, those affected by natural disaster and landless families. With this, the objective of providing assistance to the weakest sections of the society is being fulfilled. The government’s focus is not only on financial help but also on social inclusion.
Fraud ended with Aadhaar authentication
To make the scheme more transparent, Aadhaar authentication has been made mandatory. Due to this, fake beneficiaries have been stopped and only the real needy are getting assistance.
