FIFA World Cup 2026: Despite tension, Iran will play in America, FIFA made a clear announcement
Tezzbuzz Desk- Amidst the increasing tensions and international situation in the Middle East, there was uncertainty regarding the FIFA World Cup 2026, especially regarding Iran’s participation. But now the situation has become clear on this. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced that Iran’s team will not only participate in the World Cup, but will also play its scheduled matches in America only.
The tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico in June-July 2026. This World Cup, which is going to be held for the first time with 48 teams, is being considered historic in many ways.
During the FIFA Congress held in Vancouver, Infantino clearly said that the purpose of football is to unite countries and people, not to separate them. He also clarified that Iran has qualified on its own merit and has every right to play.
Iran performed brilliantly in Asian qualifying and secured a place in the World Cup for the fourth consecutive time by topping its group. They have been placed in Group G along with Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand. All its group stage matches will be played in America, out of which two matches will be played in Los Angeles and one in Seattle.
However, Iran had demanded a neutral venue for the matches in America, which was rejected by FIFA. The organization clarified that the tournament will be held as per its schedule.
Meanwhile, there is also an interesting possibility that if the United States and Iran finish second in their respective groups, then both the teams may face each other in the knockout match to be held in Dallas on July 3. In such a situation, this match can be discussed a lot not only in the context of sports but also in the context of global politics.
For now, this decision of FIFA has made it clear that the game will move forward on its own path, no matter how challenging the international conditions are.
