Rajat Patidar Out or Not Out? Uproar over Holder’s catch, Kohli clashes with umpire

The atmosphere heated up in the 42nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 when Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar had to return to the pavilion after a controversial catch. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans (GT) won the toss and bowled first, dismissing both RCB openers Jacob Bethel (5) and Virat Kohli (28) for 35 runs.

From here, Devdutt Padikkal and Patidar took charge and tried to control RCB’s innings by making a partnership of 44 runs. It seemed that this partnership would last but Patidar was declared out on a controversial catch.

Kohli got angry at the umpire’s decision

The whole matter is of the 8th over of RCB’s innings. Patidar played a pull shot on the ball bowled by Arshad Khan but the ball pitched towards square leg. Kagiso Rabada and Holder ran to take the catch. Holder reached the ball first and completed the catch by sliding. After this, he dragged the hand holding the ball on the ground. The question was whether Holder had completed the catch cleanly? The matter was referred to the third umpire. The RCB camp was confident that Patidar would be given not out but the umpire’s decision surprised them.

The umpire believed that Holder was in control when he took the catch of Patidar. The ball hit the ground but before that he had completed the catch. However, Kohli looked angry with this decision. He immediately reached reserve umpire Parashar Joshi and argued with him for a long time. Kohli looked very angry. He believed that Patidar should be given not out. RCB coach Andy Flower was also seen talking to the umpire. However, in the meantime Patidar had reached the dugout.

Social media users also raised questions on Patidar being given out. He believed that when Holder dragged his left hand, his fingers were not under the ball.
