Umair Rana speaks on playing older roles

Pakistani actor Umair Rana has shared his experiences of portraying father and grandfather roles at a relatively young age, addressing a topic that has often surprised his fans. Known for his versatility and strong performances, the actor opened up about these unusual casting choices during a recent podcast appearance.

Umair Rana began his career in theatre as both an actor and director before transitioning to television. Over the years, he has appeared in several popular dramas, earning recognition for his portrayal of complex and often negative characters. Among his notable works are Pyar Ke Sadqay, Ishq Murshid, Zan Mureed, Dil Na Umeed To Nahi, and Sang-e-Mah.

Despite being relatively young, he has frequently been cast in roles much older than his real age. In dramas like Pyar Ke Sadqay and Ishq Murshid, he played the father of actor Bilal Abbas Khan, a choice that drew attention from audiences.
Recalling a personal encounter, Umair Rana shared that a fan once questioned why he accepted such roles, suggesting he looked more like an elder brother than a father. The actor admitted that the comment left him momentarily speechless.
He also narrated a humorous incident from a drama set where he was playing the husband of Laila Wasti and the father of an adult daughter. In one scene, he learns he is about to become a grandfather, which made him laugh genuinely during filming as he tried to process the situation.
