Now every mobile will become a protective cover! Emergency alert system launched
New Delhi: The Government of India has taken a big step to further strengthen disaster management. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the indigenous Cell Broadcast Emergency Alert System on 2 May 2026. The centerpiece of this initiative is the Integrated Alert System SACHET, developed by C-DOT in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). This system is based on the Common Alerting Protocol recommended by the International Telecommunication Union. Which has been fully implemented in all 36 states and union territories of India.
The biggest advantage of the new mobile based emergency alert system is that it will send warnings directly to people’s smartphones. This system uses cell broadcast and SMS technology, so that messages can be delivered simultaneously to all mobile users in the affected area. So far, the platform has proven capable of sending more than 134 billion SMS alerts in more than 19 Indian languages during natural disasters, weather warnings and cyclonic events. This will ensure that language does not become a barrier for any citizen and every person can be alert in time.
The foundation of this entire initiative is the integrated warning system “Sachet”, which has been implemented in all 36 states and union territories of the country. This platform developed by the Center for Telecommunication Development i.e. C-DOT sends geographically targeted warnings. This means that only people in the area where there is danger will get the alert. This system is based on the Common Alerting Protocol recommended by the International Telecommunication Union. This technology makes it world class and extremely reliable. Every second is important during a disaster, and Sachet fulfills this need.
On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia formally launched this nationwide service. This project has been prepared by the Department of Telecommunications in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority i.e. NDMA. The government’s goal is to provide important information to citizens in a fast and effective manner in case of any emergency. Be it earthquake, flood, cyclone or any other crisis, this system will alert people in time. In the coming times, this technology will take India’s disaster management capability to new heights.
