Defamation case: Plea to match Rahul Gandhi’s ‘voice sample’ rejected, debate to be held on May 11

Sultanpur, 2 May. The special MP-MLA court here on Saturday rejected the petition seeking investigation of his ‘voice sample’ in the ongoing defamation case against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP from Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi. After this decision of the court, now the complainant party has started preparing to challenge it in the higher court.

Advocate Santosh Pandey said, ‘On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi’s case was pending in the MP-MLA court, in which an application was given by me earlier. The application was to the effect that the voice sample of Rahul Gandhi and the voice sample of the CD filed by me should be matched by the Forensic Science Laboratory.

He told, ‘We had debated on it on the previous date. A decision on this was to come today. The court has rejected the application today. He said that the complete order has not been received yet, a revision will be filed in the Sessions Court as soon as the copy of the order is received. The court has fixed May 11 as the next date for arguments.

It is noteworthy that BJP leader Vijay Mishra had filed a defamation complaint against Rahul Gandhi in the MP/MLA court in the year 2018. He had alleged that during the Karnataka elections in 2018, Rahul Gandhi had made indecent remarks about the then BJP President and current Home Minister Amit Shah, which had hurt his sentiments.

The five-year long process went on in the court. When Rahul Gandhi did not appear, in December 2023, the then judge issued a warrant and summoned him. Then on February 2024, Rahul Gandhi surrendered in the court. The Special Magistrate had granted him bail on two sureties of Rs 25,000 each.
