Lyricist Prasoon Joshi appointed president of Prasar Bharati
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has appointed famous lyricist, writer and communication expert Prasoon Joshi as the new chairman of the country’s public service broadcaster Prasar Bharati. The appointment was announced on Saturday, in which the ministry particularly highlighted Joshi’s multifaceted experience and creative contributions.

According to the ministry, Prasoon Joshi has done remarkable work in the fields of literature, advertising, cinema and mass communication. His creativity and connection with the society has given him a unique identity. This is why the government hopes that under his leadership, Prasar Bharati will move forward with new direction and energy.
On this occasion, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav congratulated Joshi and described him as a rare creative talent. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Joshi, Prasar Bharati will get a new thinking, clear objective and strong expression, which will further strengthen public broadcasting.
What did the ministry say in the statement issued?
In the statement issued by the ministry, it was also said that Prasun Joshi has played an important role in determining the direction of modern Indian media. Deep cultural understanding and social concerns are reflected in his writings. The songs, advertising campaigns and stories written by him have influenced and struck a chord with people from different sections of the country.
Prasoon Joshi has also previously served as the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). While holding this post since August 2017, he tried to make the film certification process more transparent and balanced. His tenure focused on maintaining a balance between creative freedom and regulatory responsibility, which was appreciated by various sections of the film industry.
Apart from this, Joshi has also played important roles in the corporate world. He has also served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Asia Pacific Region of McCann World Group India. This experience has provided him with a broad perspective in the field of media and communications.
This appointment has taken place at a time when former Prasar Bharati Chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal had resigned from his post last year. Sehgal is a retired IAS officer of 1988 batch of Uttar Pradesh cadre. Navneet Sehgal had submitted his resignation in December, which was accepted by the government.
