YouTube Makes Picture-in-Picture Feature Free for Users
New Delhi, May 2 (Read): In a major update, YouTube has announced that its premium Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature will soon be available free of cost to users worldwide, benefiting millions of viewers.

The platform, which has around 2.58 billion active users globally, confirmed that the PiP feature will be rolled out to more users outside the United States without requiring a premium subscription. Earlier, this feature was limited to paid users in many regions.
The PiP feature allows users to watch videos in a small floating window while using other apps simultaneously, making multitasking easier. Users can continue watching their favourite movies, shows, or videos without interruption.
The company stated in a blog post that the feature will be expanded globally over the coming months. It was initially introduced in 2021 for premium subscribers on iOS devices.
How the Feature Works:
With Picture-in-Picture enabled, users can simply swipe up or press the home button while a video is playing, and the video will continue in a small floating window on the screen. This mini player can be moved anywhere, allowing users to use other apps at the same time.
If users do not want PiP to activate, they can pause or stop the video before exiting the app. In case the feature does not work properly, users may need to check both app and device settings to ensure it is enabled.
For Android Users:
Users can manage the feature by going to settings within the app under playback and turning off Picture-in-Picture. It can also be controlled through device settings by selecting apps, choosing YouTube, and enabling or disabling the PiP mode under advanced options.
The update comes as YouTube continues to focus on improving user experience and giving users greater control over how they interact with content. Recently, the platform also introduced new time management tools for Shorts, allowing users to limit or disable short video consumption.
