Gang That Stole Over 1000 Cars Busted Mastermind Turns Out To Be A Government Employee

Revealing a large network of vehicle theft in the capital, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted an inter-state gang involved in stealing and selling more than 1000 vehicles. The operation of this gang was being done in a highly organized manner, in which technical experts and loopholes in the government system were used.

According to the police, the investigation into the case began with a Hyundai Creta stolen from Pitampura area on August 5 last year. As the investigation progressed, this network was found to be spread to Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Police have arrested 10 accused including gang leader Damandeep Singh alias Lucky.

The working of the gang was very well planned. First the members used to steal luxury vehicles, then with the help of experts the chassis numbers and identities of the vehicles were changed. After this, the vehicles were shown as legitimate by preparing fake documents and fake NOC of the bank.

Investigation revealed that Subhash Chand, a government employee of Himachal Pradesh, was also involved in this network. He misused the VAHAN portal and registered more than 350 vehicles through fake OTP and login. Because of this, buyers did not realize that they were buying a stolen vehicle.

During the raid, the police recovered a total of 31 expensive vehicles including Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Innova, Mahindra Thar, Mahindra Scorpio and Creta. According to the police, these vehicles were also being used in serious crimes like drug smuggling. The gang was being operated from Punjab, from where the leader financed and controlled the entire network. The police is now busy searching for other people associated with this entire racket.

The police have cautioned the common people not to rely only on the documents while buying an old car. Make sure to get the vehicle’s chassis number and registration independently checked, so that you can avoid becoming a victim of any fraud.
