According to the alert issued by OFAC, American citizens and companies are completely banned from making payments to Iranian government entities. Additionally, non-US individuals and companies are also at risk of sanctions if they make payments to Iran. There is increased risk for all those involved in the maritime industry whose ships call at Iranian ports as they may become subject to a number of US sanctions targeting Iran’s shipping and port sector.

Trump rejected Iran’s proposal
