Crossed 29 KM of Pak Strait by swimming in 10 hours, mother of world record holder son said – ‘Success came from hard training’

Ranchi. Manisha, mother of seven-year-old Ishank Singh, who swam across the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka, on Saturday said the historic feat is the result of months of rigorous training and seven to eight hours of practice every day.

Ishank started his swim from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka on April 30 and achieved a major feat by crossing the 29 km long Palk Strait and reaching Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu in 9 hours 50 minutes. His mother, Manisha, said that Ishank started swimming at the age of just three and was always interested in long distance swimming.

He told that Ishank had been practicing in Dhurva Dam for the last six months to swim across the Palk Strait. “Even at such a young age, he used to spend seven to eight hours a day in water,” said Manisha, who manages a private hospital in the city. This dedication made this achievement possible.” Ishank returned to Ranchi on Friday evening. “I want to continue to improve and achieve more in swimming,” he said. My dream is to cross the Palk Strait by swimming two-way.

For this achievement, Ishank, a Class 3 student of Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Jharkhand, has been given the title of ‘Youngest and Fastest Pak Strait Swimmer’ by the ‘Universal Records Forum’ (URF). At the same time, Theni-based Open Water Swimming Academy has honored him with ‘2026 OWASAT World Record’.

Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni also studied from this school. According to Ishank’s coaches Aman Kumar Jaiswal and Bajrang Kumar, Ishank showed extraordinary talent since childhood. He told that the previous record was in the name of Jai Jaswant of Tamil Nadu.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren congratulated Ishank, calling his achievement “a remarkable example of discipline and unwavering dedication”. School principal BN Jha said, “Ishank’s courage and determination at such a young age is truly inspiring. He has made the school, the state and the nation proud.
