Bank Holiday on May 4: Results of assembly elections tomorrow Monday, will banks remain closed? Know RBI’s decision and complete list of holidays

Tomorrow i.e. Monday, 4 May 2026 is a very important day for Indian politics. The results of the assembly elections held in 5 states of the country—Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry—will be declared tomorrow. Counting of votes will start from 8 am. In such a situation, the question in the minds of the citizens and bank customers of these states is whether the banks will remain closed tomorrow due to the election results?

Is there a bank holiday tomorrow on Monday?

According to the official holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), There is no bank holiday in any state of the country tomorrow, Monday, 4 May 2026. Although there will be commotion regarding election results in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry, banking operations will continue as normal. The Election Commission will count the postal ballots first in the morning and then the EVM votes, the results of which are expected to be clear by afternoon or evening.

When will banks remain closed in May 2026?

The month of May is full of holidays. If you are planning any big work related to bank, then definitely take a look at this list of holidays:

  • Weekly Holidays: Banks will remain closed across the country on 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 May as they are Sundays.

  • Second and Fourth Saturday: Banks will remain closed on May 9 (second Saturday) and May 23 (fourth Saturday). Especially, Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti is also on 9th May, due to which there will be an atmosphere of additional holidays in some states.

  • State Day (16 May): Banks may remain closed in states like Sikkim on this day.

  • Kazi Nazrul Islam Jayanti (26 May): There will be a holiday on this day in states like West Bengal and Tripura.

  • Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid): Banks will remain closed in almost all the big cities of the country (like Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata) on 27th and 28th May on the occasion of Bakrid.
