‘Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam’ OTT release: Streaming platform, date, cast, and crew details- The Week

Actor Saiju Kurup’s Malayalam blockbuster comedy sequel, “Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam”, is coming to streaming, nearly a month after its theatrical release. Directed by Krishnandas Murali, the sequel to “Bharathanatyam” will hit Netflix on May 8.

The original film, which was not a box office hit, became a big streaming success when it was first released on Prime Video. It is now available for free viewing on YouTube. The streaming performance gave the makers the necessary push to come up with a follow-up that opts for a daring genre shift while also firmly having a strong grip on dark humour.

With a far better theatrical run compared to its predecessor, “Bharathanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam” has emerged as a significant commercial success, grossing over Rs 38 crore worldwide in its first 23 days of release. It has maintained a steady run despite competition from other major releases such as “Vaazha 2”.

When taking into account its modest budget of approximately Rs 5–6 crore, the film is officially a superhit, having achieved over a 200% return on investment. It is currently one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of 2026, ranking alongside hits like “Vaazha 2” and “Aadu 3”. It marks the 150th movie of Saiju Kurup.

The film is headlined by Saiju Kurup, Kalaranjini, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jagadish, Vinay Forrt, Baby Jean, Sreeja Ravi, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Swathi Das Prabhu, and Sruthy Suresh.

In its review of the film, THE WEEK wrote: “Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam is basically a Looney Tunes-style entertainer characterised by clever wordplay and wildly inventive scenarios with just the necessary degree of self-awareness. Since there are so many characters involved, the sequel appears bigger with bigger stakes and more challenges, all while maintaining a measure of humour. There are places where it doesn’t quite work, like in the portions where Vinay Forrt’s cop, who has to utter some lines that seem forced or don’t land. But there are also areas where Forrt scores well, to the point of earning our applause. As in the first film, much of the humour comes from the quirky family dynamic.”

Shot by Bablu Aju and edited by Shafeeque V.B., the film has music by Electronic Kili. It was backed by Saiju Kurup Entertainments and Thomas Thiruvalla Films.
