SRH vs KKR: Sunil Narine Becomes First Bowler To Pick 200 IPL Wickets For One Team

While the run rates in the IPL have gone to stratospheric levels in recent years since the addition of the Impact Player and the flattening of pitches, one man still remains almost unhittable: Sunil Narine.

Narine is the only player to be part of all three title victories of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and he attained a staggering feat on Sunday.

Although KKR have largely underperformed in IPL 2026, Narine has still been their most impactful player, as he has always been since making his IPL debut for KKR back in 2012.

Among the bowlers who have bowled at least 20 overs this season, Narine’s economy rate of 6.8 is the best. And it truly is outstanding in a competition where runs have been scored at a run rate of 9.81.

Sunil Narine becomes the first bowler to take 200 wickets for a single IPL team

On Sunday afternoon, in the SRH vs KKR fixture in Hyderabad, Narine partnered with Varun Chakravarthy to hamstring SRH’s middle order and enforce a collapse. The duo combined to bag five wickets, and SRH slipped from 105/1 to 165/10, failing to bat all 20 overs.

He took the wickets of Salil Arora and Ishan Kishan, both in a single over, the 16th of SRH’s innings, applying breaks before the final few overs.

Which bowlers have taken 200 wickets in the IPL?

With Arora’s scalp, Narine completed 200 wickets in the IPL, becoming the third bowler to reach the milestone. Before Narine, two bowlers have achieved the landmark of 200 IPL wickets: Yuzvendra Chahal, who is the leading IPL wicket-taker with 228 wickets, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has so far bagged 215 wickets.

Narine created a historic, unprecedented record today by becoming the first bowler in IPL history to pick 200 wickets for a single IPL team, KKR.

He is also the first overseas bowler to take 200 IPL wickets, reflecting on his longevity and consistency, always being a sure starter in KKR’s XI.

In 197 matches, Narine has collected 201 wickets at an average of 25 and an economy of 6.79 – Narine’s economy is comfortably the best among the top 10 IPL wicket-takers.
