Ballia, 3 May. A major accident took place on Sunday morning at Shrirampur Ganga Ghat located in Kotwali police station area of Ballia district in UP, when six people who had come for the Mundan Sanskar drowned while bathing in the Ganga. Four people including two sisters died in the accident.
The sailors showed wisdom and saved a young man and a young woman who were drowning, but four people got drowned in the strong current of Ganga. As soon as the information was received, local police and divers reached the spot and started the search operation.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the incident and directed the concerned officials including the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police to immediately reach the spot and speed up the relief work and search for the missing people.
District Magistrate Mangala Prasad Singh, Superintendent of Police and other officials reached the spot and started the search operation on war footing with the help of local divers and sailors. After hours of search, the bodies of Harshita Chauhan (17) of Rampur Bhoj police station Gadwar, Nandita Chauhan (12) daughter of Ajit Chauhan, Arun Chauhan (20) of Kalyanipur of Fephna police station, son of Mohan and Arjun Chauhan (21) of Maheshpur of Ghazipur, son of Murali were recovered.
After the Mundan ceremony, he went to take a bath in the Ganges.
According to the information received, Vashishtha Chauhan, resident of Kalyanipur village of Phephna police station area, had reached Shivrampur Ghat with his family and relatives for the Mundan ceremony. After the completion of the religious rituals, everyone was taking bath in the Ganga. Meanwhile, Harshita, Nandita Chauhan, Arun Chauhan, Arjun Chauhan along with a young man and a young woman went into the depths while taking bath.
Seeing everyone drowning there was an outcry. The sailors present on the spot saved a young man and a girl. But four others sank into the depths. After a long search operation, all four bodies were recovered. Administrative officials including District Magistrate Mangala Prasad Singh are camping at Shrirampur Ganga Ghat and monitoring the situation.
The accident had happened five days ago also
Local people allege that the administration has not learned any lesson from the continuous incidents of drowning at Shrirampur Ganga Ghat. People say that even five days ago, four people had died due to drowning at the same ghat, yet adequate security arrangements were not made. For this reason such accidents are happening again and again.
