IPL-19: Holder and Washington Sundar shine in Titans’ thrilling win, second consecutive defeat for leading PBKS

Ahmedabad, 3 May. Both the double header matches in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL-19) on Sunday proved to be relatively low-scoring. But the second match dragged on till the last over amid an exciting dilemma. During this, after the lethal bowling led by pacer Jason Holder (4-24), all-rounder Washington Sundar (40 not out, 23 balls, one six, five fours) emerged as the hero and Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated the leading Punjab Kings (PBKS) by four wickets with one ball to spare and achieved their third consecutive win.

Partnership of 53 runs between Sudarshan and Butler

If we look at the innings of Gujarat Titans, even though Shubman Gill (five runs, four balls, one four) fell victim to Arshdeep Singh (2-24) in the second over, Sai and Butler made a partnership of 53 runs in 40 balls. Medium pacer Vijaykumar Vishak (2-31) closed Butler’s innings in the ninth over, while SAI got the support of Nishant Sandhu (15 runs, 11 balls, one six) and then Sundar.

When Sudarshan returned to the pavilion as the fourth batsman in the 15th over at a total of 124, Sundar took charge. However, at the other end, Rahul Tewatia (two runs) and Jason Holder (five runs) could not get going. Amidst this dilemma, Gujarat needed 11 runs in the last over. Arshad Khan (eight runs not out, five balls, one four) hit a four on the first valid ball of Stoinis and Sundar hit the winning six on the fifth ball.

Suryansh’s first fifty, added 79 runs on 44 balls with Stoinis

Well, the 23-year-old Mumbai batsman, playing only his second match in the IPL, took charge with a partnership of 79 runs on 44 balls with Stoinis. In this sequence, Suryansh scored 27 runs by hitting three sixes and two fours against Manav Sutar in the 14th over of the innings and completed his half-century in just 24 balls. When Rabada returned Suryansh in the 16th over, apart from Steinis, Marco Jansen (20 runs, 11 balls, one six, one four) showed his quick hands and took the team beyond 160.
