Gasification Project
It should be noted that earlier the government had given incentives for gasification projects in various categories. The amount was up to ₹1,000 crore for the private sector, and up to ₹1,350 crore for public sector companies. However, a maximum of ₹3,000 crore will be provided for each project under the new scheme, which is expected to further boost investment.
The government aims to develop 100 million tonnes of coal gasification capacity by 2030. This scheme will play an important role in achieving this objective. Coal accounts for more than 55% of India’s energy needs. Moreover, India is the second largest producer and consumer of coal in the world. The demand for energy is expected to increase further in the coming years. In this context, coal gasification technology can lead the country towards clean energy, domestic production and a strong economy.
Dependence on imports will decrease
One of the major objectives of the scheme is to reduce import of essential products like LNG, Urea, Ammonia and Methanol. At present, India is heavily dependent on foreign sources for this supply.
