Anne Hathaway’s Go-To Dinner Is So Perfect for Spring
We completely understand how this meal became one of her favorites.
Key Points
- Anne Hathaway’s favorite spring meal is branzino with potatoes, greens and roasted tomatoes.
- Pair Hathaway’s dish with roasted or raw greens, like asparagus, broccoli or a simple arugula salad.
- Emily Blunt’s English Roasted Potatoes make a perfect side for Hathaway’s branzino-centric dinner.
We can’t say that the characters in 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada were eating well—the movie does feature diets made up of only the occasional cube of cheese, steaks thrown in the sink and a crusade against onion bagels. The film, which satirized the modeling world of the 2000s (including its pervasive diet culture) has become a cult classic since its 2006 release. Simply say “cerulean” or “florals for spring” and people will start quoting Miranda Priestly.
It’s no surprise that so many of us are flocking to theatres to see the sequel all these years later. And it’s good to know that the cast of the film have better taste in food than their characters did years ago. We’ve heard about Meryl Streep’s favorite chicken soup, Emily Blunt’s Ina Garten-approved roast potatoes recipe and the many, many foodie escapades of Stanlet Tucci.
Now, Anne Hathaway is joining in on all the food talk. Vogue recently asked the actress about her favorite meal, and her response had our stomachs rumbling. “My favorite meal right now is branzino with potatoes and a really good cooked green,” Hathaway said. “Also, if there could be some roasted tomatoes in there, I think it’s really delicious.”
To recreate Hathaway’s favorite dish at home, you can try pairing the fish with some irresistibly sweet cherry tomatoes—we recommend you roast them at 300°F for a couple of hours—and roasted greens like asparagus or broccoli with a drizzle of flavorful balsamic.
With the weather getting warmer, it might also make sense to go for some raw greens on the side. A simple side of Caesar salad usually hits the spot, but you could also opt for a simple arugula salad or even a delicious cucumber salad. (We’re also fond of grilled veggies on a warm evening—green grub like zucchini or asparagus make great options.)
And for those looking forward to that side of potatoes? You obviously need to try Emily’s English Roasted Potatoes, which uses just Yukon Gold potatoes, vegetable oil, salt and parsley. These roast spuds are simple but utterly lovable—though you could also opt for mashed or baked potatoes, too. We love putting a twist on a classic by swirling caramelized onions into our mashed potatoes or stuffing our baked potatoes with broccoli and cheese.
We can’t wait to put together a Hathaway-inspired fish dinner. If you have trouble finding branzino at your local market, you could swap the fish for Stanley Tucci’s cod alla Livornese, which is made with a tomato olive sauce—just don’t try sneaking fish into the movie theater.
