India, Japan focus on strengthening cooperation in health sector
New Delhi. The third meeting of the Joint Committee on Health (JCM) between India and Japan was held at the Bharat Mandapam on Tuesday. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and Japan’s Minister in-charge of Health Policy Kimi Onoda jointly chaired the meeting.
On this occasion, Nadda said that this meeting reflects the mutual commitment of both the countries to strengthen cooperation in the field of health and foster new partnerships.
Nadda referred to the multi-faceted relationship between India and Japan spanning more than a century based on partnership in various fields and reiterated India’s commitment towards inclusive development under the guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”. He emphasized that the Joint Committee meeting is an important platform to advance bilateral cooperation in the field of health services.
On this occasion, Japan’s Minister in charge of Health Policy, Kimi Onodane, while addressing the meeting, stressed Japan’s continued participation in furthering cooperation in the field of health services through innovation, technology and research. Along with this, commitment was also expressed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
On this occasion, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, welcoming the delegation, said that the partnership between India and Japan is based on mutual respect, trust and shared vision for the future. He emphasized that the Joint Committee meeting held under the Memorandum of Cooperation between India and Japan has proven to be an important platform for taking this partnership forward through regular dialogue and deeper mutual understanding and expressed confidence that constructive and forward-looking discussions will take place during it.
During the Joint Committee meeting, detailed presentations were made and discussions were held on key priority areas including prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Japanese delegates shared their experiences in advancing digitalization through collaboration in interlinking systems, AI-enabled medical technologies and research by leveraging emerging digital platforms.
