“You will always be a part of this family”: Virat Kohli salutes Avon Speechley at RCB’s emotional farewell ceremony

BENGALURU – Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bid an emotional farewell to their former head physio Avon Speechly, who served with the franchise for 18 years from 2008 to 2025 and ended an era as the team’s longest-tenured member.

Speechly, who has been a key figure behind RCB’s journey season after season, returned to Bengaluru where the franchise hosted a special farewell ceremony for him. On this occasion, the players and support staff celebrated his contribution.

At the farewell ceremony, Virat Kohli spoke about his long-term bond with Speechly, “I have probably spent the most time with you in the RCB setup. You are a long-time member of this family. Apart from your hard work and professionalism, what will always be remembered is your kindness, caring and honesty. You will always be a part of this family. We will always remember you.”

Director of cricket Mo Boat said of Speechly’s contribution: “Avon has been the main physio of our team. We called him back to honor his contribution and spend time with him to celebrate his work for RCB.”

Speechly also expressed his sentiments, saying: “When I walked into the hotel yesterday, it felt like coming home. Having had the opportunity to work here for so long and RCB has always felt like a family. Cricketers around the world only aspire to spend even one season here, I was fortunate to spend 18 years here. I will always feel a part of RCB.”

Speechly’s tenure with RCB spanned nearly two decades, in which he worked with players from different generations and became a trusted and respected face in the team. The farewell ceremony is a reminder of those who shape the team’s culture and legacy behind the scenes.
