Craze for electric vehicles in India, EV sales increased by 75% in April, Euler and Mahindra also gained momentum
Delhi. The sales figure of electric passenger vehicles in the country took a huge jump of 75 percent to 23,506 units in April this year. Data released by FADA, the apex organization of vehicle dealers, on Wednesday showed that a total of 23,506 electric passenger vehicles were sold in April, which is 75.14 percent more than a year ago. Tata Motors stood first in this category with 8,543 units. Its sales have increased by 77.17 percent.
Mahindra & Mahindra’s sales increased by 63.98 percent to 5,413 units and JSW MG Motor India’s sales increased by 32.54 percent to 5,006 units. Sales of electric two-wheelers grew by 60.73 percent year-on-year and stood at 1,48,740 units. However, its sales declined by 22 percent month-on-month. In this category, TVM Motor Company’s sales increased by 88.64 percent to 37,683 units.
Bajaj Auto sold 32,898 and Ather Energy sold 27,034 two-wheeler electric vehicles. Of these, an increase of 71.68 percent and 102.78 percent was recorded respectively. Sales of commercial electric vehicles increased by 148.9 percent to 2,245 units. In this, Tata Motors stood first with 799 units. In April last year, it sold 265 commercial electric vehicles. Euler Motors was at second place and Mahindra Group was at third place.
Euler Motors’ sales increased more than 12 times to 518 units and Mahindra Group’s sales increased by nearly 70 percent to 285 units. Sales in the three-wheeler category grew at a sluggish rate of 3.30 percent and stood at 64,549 units. In this category, Mahindra Group stood first with 10,292 units, Bajaj Auto stood second with 9,725 units and TVS Motor Company stood third with 3,046 units. Their sales have increased by 82.71 percent, 76.53 percent and 152.36 percent respectively.
