Killer of boxer Vikas Dagar caught after eight months, Rana is a member of Sonu gang

New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested a 38-year-old man allegedly involved in the murder of a national level boxer last year. He said that accused Sumit Rana alias Chhotu (38), who was evading arrest for more than eight months, was arrested from Adarsh ​​Nagar in connection with the murder of boxer Vikas Dagar alias Bhinda. The police officer said, “Rana is a member of the Sonu gang. This gang is also known as ‘Thekedar Gang’. He was wanted in a case registered on July 30, 2025 at Baba Haridas Nagar police station.

According to the police, Vikas Bhinda, a national level champion and a resident of Nangli Sakrawati, Najafgarh, was shot dead by the assailants on July 29, 2025, allegedly as part of a pre-planned conspiracy due to old enmity. Police say that four accused Vikas Dahiya alias Sonu Contractor, Akash Gehlot, Krishna and Sumit Rana were involved in this attack on Vikas in Baba Haridas Nagar area. Police said Sonu allegedly fired at the boxer, killing him on the spot. After the attack, all the accused fled from the spot. “During the investigation, Akash was arrested by the local police, while the rest of the accused absconded,” the officer said. Later on October 18, 2025, a Delhi court declared the absconding accused as fugitives.

On April 12 this year, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police arrested gang leader Sonu Contractor from Chandigarh. Later the police came to know that Rana was in Zirakpur, Punjab but he escaped from there before the police could raid. After this, the crime branch received a secret information and arrested Rana in Adarsh ​​Nagar, Delhi. During interrogation, Rana allegedly confessed to his role in the conspiracy and told the police that he used to keep changing locations in different states with the help of his associates to avoid arrest. Police said Rana holds a diploma in hotel management and studied and worked in Malaysia from 2016 to 2021, after which he moved to Dubai, where he started a trading company. According to the police, he returned to Delhi in July 2025 and allegedly along with his cousin Sonu Contractor started establishing their dominance in the area and extorting money from local businessmen.
