Five Indian-origin youths arrested in Canada for stealing marijuana worth ₹12 crore; two illegal weapons also recovered

Toronto. Five young men of Indian origin have been arrested in the Canadian province of Ontario for allegedly stealing cannabis products worth more than $2 million (approximately Rs 12 crore). Police also recovered two illegal weapons from the suspects. The York Regional Police are investigating the case.

According to police, the stolen trailer went missing from the Niagara Region. The trailer was carrying a large quantity of legal cannabis products destined for delivery to several licensed dispensaries in Ontario. However, the trailer was stolen before delivery could be made. It should be noted that marijuana is legal to consume or sell in Canada.

The incident occurred on April 15th, when police officers received reports of suspicious activity near McLaughlin Road and Highway 401 in Mississauga. During the investigation, officers located a stolen trailer. Shortly thereafter, police detained five people associated with the trailer. The search also led to the recovery of two firearms, which police say were illegally possessed.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Manveer Singh, 21, Sarabjit Singh, 32, Dilkhab Singh, 21, Jaiskawan Malhi, 23, and Karan Kumar, 25. According to police, Karan Kumar is a resident of Hamilton, while the other four suspects are from Brampton.

All of these accused have been charged with a total of 33 counts, including theft, possession of stolen property, possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon, and other criminal offenses. Police say the investigation is ongoing and they are searching for others involved in this network.

Authorities suspect that more people may be involved in this case. Police have appealed to the public that anyone with information related to this case can report it directly to police or anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
