Chennai News: The Tamil Nadu power formation suspense is now over, paving the way for TVK chief and superstar Vijay Thalapathy to become the chief minister. On Thursday, May 7, Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and staked claim to power. Expressing satisfaction with Vijay’s performance and the support of MLAs, the Governor has officially invited him to form the government.

According to the information received, Vijay Thalapathy has assured the Governor that he has the required majority and has expressed confidence that he will easily prove the majority in the Legislative Assembly after the oath taking. Earlier on Wednesday, he submitted the list of TVK and Congress MLAs to the Governor. However, a possible swearing-in ceremony on Thursday was canceled due to technical reasons. The political uncertainty is now over with the governor’s green light.

According to sources, Vijay’s grand swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place in Chennai next Friday or Saturday. Senior leaders of TVK, representatives of allied parties and senior political leaders from across the country will be present to witness this historic moment. After the film industry, the whole country is paying attention to what new direction Vijay Thalapathy gives in active politics.

A numbers game for 10 seats

Vijay’s party emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu elections. TVK won 108 seats in the assembly elections, but fell just 10 seats short of reaching the majority figure. While TVK is gearing up for the swearing-in ceremony, it is yet to announce which party it will be forming an alliance with.

How will Thalapathy Vijay form the government?

In order to form the government with a majority, Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, can get support from smaller parties like Congress, PMK, Left parties, CPM and VCK. Together, these parties can help reach a majority figure.

TVK won 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

DMK won 59 seats.

AIADMK won 47 seats.

Congress won 5 seats.

PMK has 4 seats.

Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) won 2 seats.

CPI, VCK and CPI(M) also won two seats each.

BJP, DMDK and AMMKMNKZ won one seat each.
