Irfan Pathan’s big revelation on Delhi Capitals’ defeat in IPL 2026
Delhi: Delhi Capitals (DC)’s campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has not been as per expectations so far. The team led by Akshar Patel has been able to achieve only 4 wins in 10 matches, due to which the path to the playoffs is looking difficult. Now former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has also expressed his opinion on the team’s continuous poor performance.

Error in decisions cost heavily to the team
Irfan Pathan believes that Delhi Capitals made strategic mistakes in many matches, due to which the team had to suffer losses. He said that in some matches the decisions taken after winning the toss were beyond comprehension. According to him, considering the weather and pitch conditions, the team should have opted for bowling first, but it was not done.
Giving an example, he said that the team batting first against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on the same ground was reduced to a very low score. Despite this, Delhi did not read the situation correctly in the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Batting first amidst rain and uncertainty of weather proved to be disadvantageous for the team.
Balance disturbed due to absence of Mitchell Starc
Irfan Pathan also admitted that the unavailability of Mitchell Starc at the beginning of the season was a big blow for Delhi Capitals. He said that the lack of an experienced fast bowler like Starc was clearly visible in the initial matches. However, he also added that the team management could have used its available players in a better way.
Kuldeep Yadav’s form becomes a cause for concern
Former Indian cricketer also described the current form of Kuldeep Yadav as a major reason for Delhi’s problems. According to Irfan, the team is very dependent on Kuldeep in the spin department, especially on those pitches where spin bowlers get help, but even on such wickets, if the bowler spends runs and is unable to get wickets, then the team gets into trouble.
