Apara Ekadashi, which falls in the Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month, is considered extremely auspicious in Sanatan Dharma. This Ekadashi is also known as Achala Ekadashi. In the year 2026, the fast of Apara Ekadashi will be observed on 13 May. On this day, worship of Lord Vishnu, Mother Lakshmi and Tulsi ji is said to have special significance.
There is a religious belief that fasting on Apara Ekadashi and worshiping Tulsi in a proper manner destroys a person’s sins and brings happiness and prosperity in the house. The special thing is that touching Tulsi on Ekadashi is generally considered taboo, but worshiping it following the rules gives auspicious results.
Date and auspicious time of Apara Ekadashi 2026
According to the Panchang, Ekadashi tithi will start from 2:52 pm on 12th May 2026 and will continue till 1:29 pm on 13th May 2026. On the basis of Udaya Tithi, the fast of Apara Ekadashi will be observed on 13th May. It is believed that by worshiping Tulsi on this day, Lord Vishnu becomes extremely pleased and with the grace of Goddess Lakshmi, wealth resides in the house.
Method of Tulsi puja on Apara Ekadashi
On the day of Apara Ekadashi, wake up in the morning before sunrise and take bath and wear clean yellow or white clothes. After this, clean the place of worship and sprinkle Ganga water. First of all worship Lord Vishnu and offer Tulsi Dal as his offering. Then light a ghee lamp in front of the Tulsi plant.
Circumambulate around Tulsi ji 5, 7 or 11 times.
Chant the mantra ‘Om Tulsyayi Namah’.
In the end, perform the aarti of Tulsi ji.
Do these special measures to gain money
Offering saffron to the Tulsi plant on the day of Apara Ekadashi is considered very auspicious. According to religious belief, this pleases Goddess Lakshmi and removes financial problems. Apart from this, lighting a ghee lamp near Tulsi and chanting the mantra ‘Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya’ 108 times eliminates negative energy and removes financial obstacles.
Keep these things in mind during Tulsi Puja
Water should not be offered to Tulsi ji on Apara Ekadashi. It is believed that on this day Tulsi Mata also observes a fast for Lord Vishnu.
Tulsi leaves should not be plucked on the day of Ekadashi.
Break Tulsi Dal Dashami Tithi in advance and keep it aside.
Avoid wearing black clothes during puja.
Do not keep dirt or empty utensils around Tulsi.
Always touch Tulsi ji with clean hands.
