Big gift to 12 districts of UP, two new highway corridors will be built
Lucknow. A very good news has emerged for the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh. The construction work of two important corridors out of the six North-South Highway corridors proposed by the state government is going to start soon. The tender process for this has been started and preparations for land acquisition have also intensified.
With the construction of these highway corridors, the connectivity of about 12 districts of Purvanchal will be strengthened and people will get the facility of fast and easy travel. The government believes that these projects will not only strengthen the road network but will also give a big boost to trade, industry and tourism.
New highway corridor will be built from Kushinagar to Varanasi
The first highway corridor will be built till Varanasi via Kushinagar, Deoria, Doharighat, Ghazipur and Zamania. The total length of this corridor will be approximately 220 kilometers. According to the Public Works Department, the construction work of Kushinagar-Deoria and Deoria-Dohrighat section has been approved.
Under this, the tender process has been started for the construction of Kasya-Deoria road and Deoria-Barhaj road. With the construction of this corridor, many backward districts of Eastern UP will get direct four-lane road facility. This will also significantly reduce the travel time between Gorakhpur division and Varanasi region.
Second corridor will be built from Nepal border to Prayagraj
The second highway corridor will start from Pipri on the India-Nepal border and will reach Prayagraj via Siddharthnagar, Bansi. The total length of this corridor will be approximately 295 kilometers. Approval has been given for the construction of Pipri-Bardpur road in the first phase of this project.
This highway will also be connected to Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway and Vindhya Expressway, which will provide fast connectivity to different parts of the state. The government says that districts like Siddharthnagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Amethi, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj will directly benefit from this corridor.
Approval of Rs 725 crore
About Rs 725 crore has been sanctioned for the initial 62 km construction work of both the highway corridors. The remaining works are also expected to get approval soon. The Public Works Department, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will jointly work on this ambitious project. According to officials, a target has been set to complete the construction work in two years.

With the construction of these highway corridors, economic activities are expected to accelerate in the Purvanchal region. Better road connectivity will make movement of agricultural products easier and small traders will be able to get new markets. Apart from this, access to tourism and religious places will also be easy. The tourism sector will also benefit by getting better direct road facilities to big religious cities like Varanasi, Kushinagar and Prayagraj.
