Who are Pental?
Kanwarjit Pental’s career spans over five decades. He entered films in the 1970s and soon established himself with his comedic timing and unique style. His roles in films like ‘Bavarchi’, ‘Dostana’ and ‘Satte Pe Satta’ are still remembered today. Apart from films, he also gained immense popularity on television.
Kanwarjit Pental’s film journey has been very interesting. He was born on August 22, 1948 in a Sikh family in Tarn Taran, Punjab. Before Partition, his father was a cameraman at Pancholi Arts in Lahore. When the family returned to Mumbai after Partition, producer Pancholi asked them to make a film, but Pancholi’s death thwarted those plans. After that his father opened a photography shop in Delhi.
Pental returned to Mumbai in 1969 and began his film career. His roles in films like ‘Guruji’ in ‘Bavarchi’, Ratan in ‘Jawaani Deewani’, ‘Dostana’, Buddha Anand in ‘Satte Pe Satta’, ‘Rafu Chakkar’ and ‘Khun Pasina’ were highly appreciated. His most memorable work was portraying the roles of ‘Shikhandi’ and ‘Sudama’ in the TV serial ‘Mahabharat’, while his elder brother, Guffy Pental, played the iconic role of ‘Shakuni Mama’ in the same serial.
