According to a report in The Sunday Times, Kusal Mendis will be given the captaincy of the ODI and T20 teams starting with the West Indies tour. He will replace Charith Asalanka in ODIs and Dasun Shanaka in T20s as ODI and T20 captains. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has decided to appoint captains for both white-ball formats, given the busy schedule and to provide stability to the team. Dhananjaya de Silva will continue as Test captain.
When Kusal Mendis was banned for one year
Kusal Mendis is the same player who was banned for violating COVID-19 protocols during the 2021 tour of England. Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka were also banned along with him.
