Kriti Sanon, who has proven her talent with films like “Mimi,” admits that behind the glow of success lay moments of disappointment. She explained that she often came very close to landing a major role, only to have it go to a “star kid” at the last minute.
According to Kriti, “When you don’t come from a film background, you have no choice but to face uncertainty. There were many projects that I was excited about, but they were taken away from me. It’s a feeling that makes you feel helpless because it’s beyond your control.”
A period of uncertainty and wrong decisions
National Award-winning Kriti revealed that the time before “Mimi” was quite confusing. She admits that she chose some films that didn’t work out for her and failed at the box office. During that time, she began to feel like nothing was working. However, today she considers those failures her greatest teachers. According to her, those difficult days taught her the wisdom to choose better films and roles.
Kriti not only criticized nepotism but also the gender bias prevalent in the film industry. She explained how the respect and amenities offered to male actors on set are vastly different from those offered to women.
The most shocking thing she said was about remuneration. According to Kriti, “Whenever a film’s budget needs to be reduced or a cut is made, the female actress’s fees are the first to be cut.” She believes that patriarchy still prevails in the industry and that there is still a long way to go to achieve equality.
Today, Kriti Sanon is at a position where she can make her own choices, but she reminds us that all this wasn’t handed to her on a platter. She has carved her own niche and is an example for every outsider who dreams big without a godfather. Kriti’s statement is generating widespread discussion on social media and is once again raising questions about equality of opportunity in Bollywood.
