In the 54th match of IPL 2026, Royal Challengers Bangalore registered a magnificent victory by defeating Mumbai Indians by 2 wickets.
Played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, this match remained a nail-biter right up until the final over.
Batting first, Mumbai scored 166 runs in 20 overs, a target that RCB successfully chased down in the very last balls of the innings.
Mumbai’s Poor Start; Tilak Varma Anchors the Innings
Mumbai Indians got off to an extremely poor start. Ryan Rickelton was dismissed after scoring just 2 runs, while Rohit Sharma returned to the pavilion having scored 22 runs.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed without opening his account. By the time the score reached just 28 runs, Mumbai had already lost three key wickets.
Subsequently, Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir stepped up to stabilize the team.
Naman Dhir played a brisk innings of 47 runs, while Tilak Varma scored 57 runs to guide the team to a respectable total. Ultimately, Mumbai managed to reach 166/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar emerged as the standout performer; he claimed 4 wickets while conceding just 23 runs in his 4 overs.
Josh Hazlewood, Romario Shepherd, and Rasikh Dar Salam also picked up one wicket each.
Krunal Pandya Turns the Tide
Chasing a target of 167 runs, RCB also endured a shaky start. Virat Kohli was dismissed on the very first ball of the innings.
Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar, too, failed to stay at the crease for long. At one point, the team appeared to be in deep trouble.
However, Krunal Pandya single-handedly turned the tide of the match. He played a commanding innings of 73 runs off 46 balls, featuring 4 fours and 5 sixes. Jitesh Sharma also contributed a quickfire 18 runs.
For Mumbai, Corbin Bosch delivered a brilliant bowling performance, taking 4 wickets and ensuring the contest went down to the final over. Deepak Chahar also chipped in with 2 wickets.
Despite the fall of wickets in quick succession during the final overs, RCB withstood the pressure and secured the victory by posting a total of 167/8 in 20 overs.
With this win, Bengaluru has further consolidated its position on the points table.
