Team India: India’s ODI and T20 captain can change, will Shubman be on leave? Veteran may get command

According to NDTV report, selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar and senior BCCI officials are working on a new strategy keeping in mind the upcoming ICC tournaments and the next ODI World Cup. For this reason, the discussion about change in the captaincy of the team intensified.

Shreyas can become ODI and T20 captain
The report claims that Shreyas Iyer has consistently performed brilliantly in the last few years. Especially in IPL 2026, his captaincy and batting have impressed the selectors a lot. According to sources, the confidence and aggressive style with which Iyer led his franchise made his claim even stronger.

A BCCI source said that some big changes could be seen when the next T20 team is announced. The board now wants to give opportunities to young players and also maintain faith in experienced players. The source also said that Shreyas Iyer had to face difficulties many times due to injuries, but he has made a great comeback every time.

Suryakumar Yadav may be removed from captaincy?

If this decision is taken, it could have an impact on the current T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar had recently led India to the T20 World Cup and it was believed that he wanted to continue captaining the team till the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. But due to his recent form and the new thinking of the team management, his place is now being said to be in danger.

Gill may also be stripped of ODI captaincy
At the same time, this news is considered to be a matter of concern for ODI team captain Shubman Gill. After Rohit Sharma, he was given the ODI captaincy, but now the board is again considering the long-term strategy.

Sanju Samson’s name has also been discussed in the report. However, at present only Shreyas Iyer is considered to be the strongest contender. India’s next international series will start from June 6 with a one-off Test match against Afghanistan. After this three ODI matches will be played. Then the team will go on tour to Ireland and England, where the picture regarding the new captaincy can become clearer.
