New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appealed to citizens to save fuel, use public transport, resume work from home, purchase non-essential items and avoid foreign trips. He emphasized on saving foreign exchange to deal with the global crisis arising out of the ongoing war in West Asia. He shared the video related to this special appeal on social media platform X. He called for collective participation to help India cope with rising prices due to global economic disruptions, supply chain challenges and international conflicts.

While suggesting several measures to the citizens to help the country overcome these challenges, he stressed that patriotism is not only about sacrificing one’s life for the country, but also living responsibly in difficult times and performing one’s duties towards the country. Prime Minister Modi said that in the current situation the country should also pay special attention to saving foreign exchange. Petrol and diesel have become very expensive all over the world, hence it is our responsibility to save fuel and thus save the foreign exchange spent on buying petrol and diesel.

PM Modi urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption by using metro rail and public transport wherever available, opt for car pooling when private vehicles are required, prefer rail transport for freight and increase the use of electric vehicles wherever possible. Prime Minister Modi also called for re-implementing the measures adopted during the Covid period in the national interest.

He said that during the Corona period, we adopted systems like working from home, online meetings, video conferencing and developed many such systems. We had also become accustomed to them. Today the need of the hour is that we resume these practices. This will be in the national interest and we should give them priority once again.

The Prime Minister appealed to citizens to help preserve foreign exchange reserves by avoiding unnecessary foreign travel, holidays abroad and foreign weddings and by organizing domestic tourism and celebrations within India. He also advised people to avoid non-essential gold purchases for a year to reduce the pressure on foreign exchange withdrawal. Prime Minister Modi encouraged citizens to give preference to Made-in-India and locally manufactured products, including daily use items like shoes, bags and accessories. He urged families to reduce consumption of edible oil and stressed that this would benefit both national economic health and personal health.
