Government alert after PM Modi’s appeal on oil and gold, big meeting of IGoM, Congress made this demand

Tezzbuzz Desk- Amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia and the global energy crisis, the government has intensified its attention on the situation in India too. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal to reduce the consumption of petrol, diesel, gas and gold, the government has now come into active mode.

Today an important meeting of IGoM (Informal Empowered Group of Ministers) is going to be held in Delhi. This meeting will be presided over by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. In the meeting, the tense situation in the Middle East and its impact on India will be reviewed.

According to sources, secretaries of various ministries will present a detailed report on the current situation to the ministers. There is also a possibility of discussion on the possible impact on energy supply, fuel prices and foreign exchange.

A day earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to the countrymen to exercise restraint. He had said that in view of the increasing global tension, people should use petrol, diesel and gas wisely.

Along with this, he advised to adopt measures like work from home, online meetings and car pooling. The Prime Minister had also appealed for restraint on the purchase of gold for a year, saying that this would reduce the pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

Meanwhile, Congress has demanded the government to call a special session of Parliament on this entire issue. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram raised questions to the government while posting on social media platform X.

He said that when the government is making such serious appeals, it is necessary to clarify the situation behind it. He demanded that the country be informed about the real situation by calling a Parliament session.

After PM Modi’s appeal and IGoM meeting, political turmoil has also intensified. While the government is calling it a preparation to reduce the impact of the global crisis, the opposition is considering it a serious economic signal and demanding transparency. Looking at the current situation, everyone’s eyes are on the decisions related to energy policy and import-export in the coming days.
