Violent clashes in Badakhshan, Afghanistan, four killed, 32 injured

Kabul: At least four people have been killed, while 32 others are said to be injured in violent clashes at various places in Afghanistan’s north-eastern province of Badakhshan. According to local media reports, the clashes are a result of rising tensions between Taliban forces, local residents and armed opposition groups.

According to the report, the main reasons for the disputes have been the action to destroy opium cultivation, control over mining areas and anti-Taliban activities. Afghan media organization Amu TV quoted local sources as saying that the situation remains extremely tense in different districts.

Two people were reported killed and eight injured in clashes with locals during a campaign by the Taliban to destroy poppy crops in Argo district. In Shukai district, two people lost their lives and 10 others were injured in a dispute over mining activities.

Additionally, 11 people were injured in clashes between local residents and Taliban forces in Khash district, while three people were reported injured in incidents related to armed resistance in Jurm district.

Local people say that tension still persists in many districts. People have blocked roads in some areas, while the Taliban have deployed additional forces to control the situation.
